Eighth Annual Neuromuscular Colloquium
Event description:
The UC Irvine Health 2018 Neuromuscular Colloquium provides an academic forum for regional and national physicians who specialize entirely or to a significant degree in neuromuscular medicine.
The colloquium is designed to encourage an atmosphere of collaboration and interaction between the various neuromuscular specialists in the United States and Canada. It is a forum for discussing the latest topics and advances in neuromuscular medicine and to review interesting and challenging cases, including several live patient presentations.
These activities are aimed at improving patient care by promoting closer research collaborations and the development of new research projects between the various groups and institutions.

Time: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Registration information
Registration fees, which include breakfast and lunch, are:
- $75 — Physicians
- $50 — Nurses and all other allied healthcare professionals
- $25 — UC Irvine Health nurses
- Complimentary — Residents, fellows, UC Irvine Health neurologists
Learning objectives
After completing the learning activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify ALS patients who are most suitable for PEG placement and its potential adverse effects
- Identify which outcome measures to use for clinical assessment and research outcomes in myasthenia gravis
- Identify different clinical presentations and patterns of involvement in neuromuscular diseases
- Describe current diagnostic and management strategies in rare and orphan neuromuscular diseases
- Recognize the potential systemic complications in these disorders
- Understand current standards and guidelines for their management
- Understand the difference between primary inflammatory myopathies versus myopathies secondary to connective tissue disease
- Identify features helpful in distinguishing acquired myopathies from inherited myopathies
- Identify features on muscle pathology that help give a prognosis for cancer or interstitial lung disease
