University of California, Irvine School of Medicine and Medical Center seek a chair for the Department of Neurology. The department has 25 full time faculty, with established excellence in stroke, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, neurodegenerative, movement, demyelinating and neuromuscular disorders. The department has an accredited residency program and has been ranked 10th nationally in research funding. The candidate can benefit from affiliations with several organized research units on campus such as the Institute for Brain Aging and Dementia, Epilepsy Research Center, Institute for Clinical Translational Science and the Stem Cell Research Center. The new UC Irvine University Hospital, opening in February 2009, will provide a rich array of state-of-the art capabilities. These include a Joint Commission-certified stroke center, a level one trauma center, a dedicated neuroscience ICU, an epilepsy monitoring unit, and sophisticated diagnostic neuroimaging and neuro-interventional radiology services. The affiliated Veterans’ Affairs Long Beach Healthcare System has one of the most advanced spinal cord injury rehabilitation units in the region. Candidates should have a strong track record in clinical care, research, teaching, and administration. In addition, they should be certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, should be eligible for a California medical license, and should be qualified for appointment as professor in the ladder-rank (tenure-track) series.
